Happy Howl-o-ween!

Like our Pup-o-lantern?

 Dear Sophia,

It's almost Halloween! Tomorrow we get to go to the Fall Festival and I'm going to dress up like Fancy Nancy. My costume will be EXQUISITE. I'm really glad since Lilly and Leesia really wanted to go to the Pumpkin Patch, that Mama let us go this morning. I wish it hadn't been so rainy though. Lilly told me she has never seen so many pumpkins, but I told her that is only because this is her very first Autumn. There are more pumpkins than you can count. I wish we could go again and again but I guess the pumpkin patch closes after October is over.

Last night Lilly said she was chilly so I gave her an extra blanket. But Mama says she will make some cozy pajamas for Leesia and Lilly pretty soon that will keep them warm all winter. I told her that I think they need coats too, but she said hold your horses, because she isn't that good of a seamstress.

XOXOXO,

Scarlet

Dear Scarlet,

Last night, right before we fell asleep, Leesia asked me if we could have cake for breakfast. I wasn't so sure that Mama and Daddy would let us have cake first thing in the morning! But surprisingly, Mama made us Berry Oatmeal Cake for breakfast with apple cider and it was soooo yummy. Leesia loved it and asked for seconds. Mama said to be very careful because blueberry stains are hard to get out, but she ate very neatly. Don't worry, it's ok that you spilled a little juice and it didn't even get on your outfit. Later we are going to the park to play, and Daddy said we should have perfect sliding and swinging weather.

XOXOXO,
Sophia

Dear Sophia,

I can't believe that our dolls came today! I have named my bee-u-ti-ful baby Lilly, like the flower. She is going to be so much fun to play with. I can't wait to take her on adventures and play lots of games. She reminds me so much of Fancy Nancy with her twisty pink hair with highlights! I am going to wear my Pumpkin dress every day because it matches Lilly's dress. Mama said we might need to wash it. But it is sooooo comfy...

Soon we will have a Welcome Home party with special treats for Lilly and Leesia.

XOXOXO,
Scarlet

Dear Scarlet,
Today was the day we have been waiting for! I couldn't believe it when I saw the mailman stop in front of our house. And then he brought in a big box all wrapped up like a present. Inside were our two perfect dolls, just like I hoped. I am naming my doll Leesia. She has purple eyes and pink hair. Her hair is almost as fuzzy and crazy as mine! I love her already. Mama let me take her with me for my nap today. Tomorrow we can go visit Ahmama and Papa. We love visiting our grandparents and I bet our dolls will too.

Love,
Sophia

Dear Scarlet and Sophia,

Today we went to a doll show at a neighborhood church. It was really interesting looking at the many antique and handmade dolls. Your Mama was in doll heaven and the two of you were speechless to be in a room with hundreds of dolls all at the same time. But we had already discussed that today wasn't a day for buying any new dolls!
However, at the very last booth, the two of you were delighted by a basket of tiny porcelain dolls. The owner, a lovely delicate older lady, with beautiful snowy white hair saw you and insisted that you each pick your favorite as a gift from her. Your smiles lit up the room and I could see that she was just as happy as you were from her spontaneous generosity.
I am writing you this note because I hope that you will never forget how meaningful and special a stranger's kindness can be. I know you are only four years old now, and don't truly understand the power of such a gift. But one day, I hope you can look back and remember the special present from someone whose name we'll never know. We'll always keep these two little dolls to remind ourselves of the joy such a gift can bring! And I will think about her often and thank God for a stranger's kindness.

Love,
Mama

Dear Sophia,

Don't you just love dressing up like Fancy Nancy? I'm sure we will be have the fanciest costumes for Halloween! We can paint our nails too. It will be fabulous!
Mama says our dolls will be coming very soon. I've been thinking and thinking about a name for my doll. I like the names: Chloe, Lily, Daisy, Lola, Lisa, and Sadie. I also like the name Strawberry. I already have a doll named Strawberry, though, so that would be confusing! Until we pick names our little babies will be called Fluffy and Creamy! I bet they will loooove ice cream for a special treat. I hope they come soon. I asked Mama if we could have a party when they arrive and she said YES. I can't wait.

Scarlet

Happy Birthday!

Dear Scarlet,

Happy, happy birthday! We are finally four years old. I think this is going to be a big year for us. Thank you so much for the little puppy that you got for me. I was surprised even though I knew you were giggling about something when we went shopping the other day! I love playing with all my animals and now I have a new one!
Our party is tomorrow. It's going to be so much fun. I know sometimes you get a little shy when we are around a lot of people, but I will be right there with you so you don't have to worry. Daddy is going to make our cake today and we will get PINK candles and PINK frosting! I can't wait to see it. Our party will be great!

Sophia

Dear Sophia,

I am so excited to be dressing up like a cowgirl for our birthday! Our horses are really fun to ride, although mine keeps getting tired from all the jumps. Maybe we need to practice with our lassos before we have our party. Mama said she could crochet some for us. I have a birthday surprise for you, but I can't tell you what it is! Only two more days until the party!

Love,

Scarlet

The Swing

by Robert Louis Stevenson
How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
   Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
   Over the countryside—

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Dear North Carolina Mountains,

We LOVE you. We had such a beautiful time visiting your apple orchards, crunching leaves, playing with our friends on your hills and eating yummy fall treats. You gave us the perfect early Autumn weekend. We especially enjoyed the warm sunshine and soft breezes while we were there. We even got to see some cute puppies and horses. It was soooo much fun! We hope to see you again soon,

XOXOXO,
Scarlet & Sophia

PS Please tell the leaves at our house that it is time to change colors so we can jump in a big pile of them!

Dear Scarlet,
Thanks for letting me pick the bedtime story tonight. I like the book about the barking bird! I didn't want to go to bed early, but I was getting pretty tired from playing hard all day. We really made a mess with all of the blankets and building a tent, but it was so much fun. We surprised Mama when we brought all of the groceries into the kitchen, didn't we? She is amazed at what big helpers we are now that we are almost four years old.

I love the doll picture you made. Here is mine! Don't forget, tomorrow we have to pack to go to the mountains.

Love,
Sophia

Dear Sophia,

Today was so much fun. I love playing shadow tag with you. Here is a picture I took of my shadow. Do you know that our birthday is only one week away? I can't wait to have birthday cake!  Mama says that Papa and Ahmama are coming to our party.

I'm sorry that you accidentally let go of your balloon today. I know that you were really sad. But it was kind of fun watching it disappear into the sky and I didn't mind sharing my balloon with you. Maybe we can have balloons for our birthday next week!

Love,
Scarlet

Dear Sophia

Here is your own little dolly. Her skin is so sweet and soft. Soon a little bird will fly in to blow air inside her belly and make her fluffy and huggable. Then she will be ready to meet you!

Love,
Scarlet

Dear Scarlet

I think this is going to be your baby, so make sure to feed her lots of warm wool so she can grow and be ready to come home soon. What do you think she is going to look like?

Love,
Sophia

Dear Scarlet,

Could you guess the news Mama was going to tell us? I could tell you were surprised that we are getting special dollies from the way you were squealing! As soon as Daddy came home I ran to the door to tell him, "I am getting a doll made just for me".
My Mr. Cow will be very excited to meet her. I can't wait to see what my baby looks like. And your baby, too! The first thing I want to do when she comes is play with her hair. And then maybe we should have a tea party. I'm so excited!

Love,
Sophia

Dear Sophia,

Who are Chimi and Changa? I heard Mama talking about them. Is it something from Winnie the Pooh? Or Tinkerbell? Maybe it is the doggie in Fancy Nancy? Mama says she has a surprise to tell us soon. Do you think it's about our birthday?

It was so much fun flying with you on the hill today. I pretended we were way up in the clouds like birds! Remember the roly-poly you found? He was so cute! Thank you for letting me hold him too. Maybe tomorrow we can find him again if we look in the grass. Mama said tomorrow if it is nice we can have a picnic for lunch, and make chocolate chip cookies too!

Love,
Scarlet

Dear Scarlet,

Today it was so nice outside! It's going to get cooler and cooler but for now it was just perfect, not too warm and not too cold. We picked a bunch of flowers for Mama. The flowers are cute yellow ones that we love finding in the yard, but Mama says they are weeds that Daddy will take care of later today. We better pick them while we can!
Next weekend we are going to the mountains. We will get to sleep in sleeping bags and maybe go apple picking! I can't wait. I hope that it doesn't rain and that we get to stay up late for a special treat. I don't know how long it will be until next weekend so I will probably just ask Mama every few minutes until it is time to go. I hope it's soon!
Love, Sophia

Scarlet and Sophia are almost four years old twins, and might just have the curliest hair you have ever seen! They both love animals, yoga, and fairies. They are constantly pretending to be cats, zooming around the house on their riding toys, and singing songs no one has ever heard. Sometimes, you can catch them giggling uncontrollably over a twin joke that isn’t even in English! If you meet them, they may act shy because they tend to attract a lot of attention. Once you get to know them, however, you will get twice the energy you expected.

The twins don’t know it yet, but Chimi and Changa is preparing something very special for them. Stay tuned and find out what is in store for Scarlet and Sophia!
